French police make horse meat scandal arrests
This Monday throughout the south of France, French authorities arrested workers from the veterinary and meat industries. The raids were made as further details concerning the European horse meat scandal were uncovered. It has been unearthed that horses used by the pharmaceutical company Sanofi were sold to slaughterhouses from 2010 to 2012. This is however after they had been used to incubate antibodies to produce serums, which would be used to combat maladies such as rabies and tetanus.
The horses, although still healthy, had been labeled as ‘not fit for human consumption’ and were supposed to be killed. Instead they were sold using false papers and found their way into ready meals.

A dwindling supply of Trappist beer
Trappist beers are in the highest demand they have ever been, yet strict regulation by the International Trappist Association (ITA), could result in supply chain issues, with an inability to fulfill orders in the near future.
The ITA dictates that for the elite beer to be stamped with the official Trappist label, it must be manufactured by monks or under their expert supervision. There is however a distinct lack of applicants to become monks, with numbers dropping yearly.
At the Orval monastery, a renowned producer of Belgian Trappist beer, order member numbers have dropped from 35 to 12, over the last few decades.

Making the Solar industry more efficient
A recent post by Solar Novus has concisely summarized the challenges faced by the emerging solar industry, highlighting several inefficiencies and presenting solutions.
Next to offering greater transparency and speedier transactions, the article suggests using E-commerce type sites in order to cut costs and increase efficiency.
The article does however note that restrictions and audits would need to be put in place, in order to certify that only suppliers, installation companies and manufacturers in the solar industry were involved.
