A road tested self-driving truck
This week, in front of an audience of several hundred government officials, journalists, and investors, Daimler-Benz demonstrated its autonomously driven Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025, on a stretch of the A14 autobahn near the city of Magdeburg, Germany.
The truck is able to drive itself up to speeds of 85 km/h, thanks to its Highway Pilot assistance system. The automobile manufacturer hopes to further work with government officials, and have the correct legislation in place, so automated driving could be a reality within the next ten years.
Some benefits to long-distance haulage that autonomously driven vehicles present include greater efficiency and safety, through ‘optimally executed acceleration and braking phases.’ This can in turn optimize traffic flow and lower fuel costs.

Boeing shipment derailed

As a result of the derailment, three 737 Boeing fuselages slid down the embankment of the Clark Fork River.
