Nearly 34,000 pounds of chicken recalled
In what is believed to have come as a result of a Salmonella outbreak, seven people have fallen ill, as a result of eating mechanically separated chicken produced by Tyson Foods. In light of the circumstances, the food giant has decided to recall 33,840 pounds of uncooked, mechanically separated chicken. The chicken was however not intended for consumption by the general public, but sold to American state institutions, with those being affected being from a Tennessee penitentiary.

Supply chain risk tops corporate concerns
The results of a survey, the Allianz Risk Barometer 2014, have revealed the top concerns of corporate insurance experts. The top global business risk for 2014 was perceived as business interruption and supply chain risk, with 43% of survey respondents citing this. Furthermore, the report also noted that business interruption and supply chain losses made up between 50% to 70% of all insured property losses.
Natural disasters such as earthquakes and storms placed second with 33%.
Emerging threats and concerns for businesses were cybercrime and IT failure, as well as loss of reputation or brand value, rising 6% and 5% respectively.

The UK to receive a leg up in logistics
The United Kingdom faces a potential logistics crisis should 285,000 logistics positions— ranging from entry-level positions to management—not be filled over the next six years.
In hopes of giving the British logistics sector a much needed boost, the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) has arranged significant funding and expertise for major transport plans in the UK. Several leading logistics firms, including Norbert Dentressangle, are also supporting the long-term initiative to attract new talent and retain current logistics workers.
One of SEMLEP’s top priorities is to change long held negative misconceptions about UK Logistics careers.
