UAE also plans to deploy drones
The United Arab Emirates has announced it intends to utilize drone technology to deliver packages within a year. The country is currently in the testing phase of the project, to see how effective autonomous drones will deliver their intended cargo of official documents and parcels such as ID cards. This trial period will last for six-months.
Amazon announced similar plans last year, but unlike the UAE, faces regulatory approval. The results of a US congressional hearing discussing the use of autonomous drones in US airspace have suggested that the regulations will be proposed by late 2014. The UAE government has however supported the drone delivery scheme from its inception. This naturally, allows for more fluid lines of communication when establishing the new and required legislation, also meaning that in all likelihood, that the UAE will beat Amazon and the US to the punch.
