Safeguarding the supply chain
In recent times, numerous high profile businesses have become victim to security breaches. These attacks have caused a media frenzy and in our most recent blog entry written by my colleague, Karsten Horn, joined the discussion and explored the reality of cyber threats on the supply chain.
However, it seems that businesses are not the ones taking security concerns seriously as the US government released a report this week regarding advances in global supply chain security. The report, which has now been made available to the public, highlights efforts to protect organizations from threats through the promotion of improved supply chain standards across critical industries and successful implementation of new technologies that offer greater resilience to threats.

Banks must account for supply chain risk
Although, the recessionary environment and bonus culture continue to shake public confidence, the notion of supply chain risk is seldom considered a pressing issue within the banking industry. However, an article released this week suggests businesses in the financial sector fail to realize the significant risk their supply chains face. Given that retailers and manufacturers normally receive all the negative publicity for poor operational performance, this article highlights that no industry is immune from risk.

Could climate change become the source of supply issues?
The topics of climate change and sustainable business are issues that continue to gain precedence in the business agenda. As the impact of environmental issues become increasingly apparent, organizations have been forced to find ways to drive efficiency throughout their operations.
However, an article featured in the Guardian this week suggests that creating efficiencies is only the first step towards sustainability. According to the article, climate change poses a very real threat to the availability of certain products as traditional sources of supply become unsuitable and businesses must seek new alternatives. As a result, businesses must review their sourcing strategy in order to minimize the risk of disruptions.
